Performance Analysis of Heterogeneous Traffic on an Integrated Network Link with Finite Waiting Room and Anticipated-release Reservation Policy

چکیده
We consider a system where the superposition of two heterogeneous Poisson traac streams is ooered to an integrated network link in synchronous transfer mode, where one stream follows the blocked-and-cleared mode (`loss' mode) and the other can wait ((nitely) if bandwidth is not available for connection at the time of arrival (`hold' mode); we assume that each stream has diierent bandwidth requirements per call. A reservation scheme, called anticipated-release policy, is introduced where an arrival is accepted into a waiting room only if the amount of time this customer is expected to wait is within acceptable limits. For such a loss/hold system, we provide analytic performance models for exponential service time distributions for both streams as well as for the non-exponential service time distribution case for the traac stream in`hold' mode. We also present a method on how to model the waiting time distribution of the traac stream with`hold' mode. From numerical studies, we observe that blocking can be reduced considerably for both services just by introducing a small waiting room for one traac class compared tòloss' mode for both traac classes; further, this holds true for the case when a maximum tolerable time limit is imposed on the waiting. Finally, our results indicate that this loss/hold scenario with limited waiting room appears to be virtually insensitive to the service time distribution of thèhold'-mode traac.

An approximate performance model for a multislot integrated services system
In this paper, we present an approximate model (with finite or infinite waiting room) for an integrated service system with three types of traffic: a first offered narrow-band traffic, an overflow narrow-band traffic and a wide-band traffic. A narrow-band call requires a single server, while the number of servers required to serve a wide-band call is N . The blocked narrow-band calls are lost w...

In this paper, we propose a multirate teletraffic loss model of a single link that accommodates elastic and adaptive services whose calls come from a finite traffic-source population. This call arrival process is known as a quasi-random process and is used in traffic modelling when the number of users who generate traffic is relatively small compared to the system capacity. In-service elastic a...

This paper presents the analysis of a renewal input finite buffer queue wherein the customers can decide either to join the queue with a probability or balk. The service process is Markovian service process ($MSP$) governed by an underlying $m$-state Markov chain. Employing the supplementary variable and imbedded Markov chain techniques, the steady-state system length distributions at pre...
